2028Artemis IV — first crewed Moon landing since 1972NASA targets early 2028 for Artemis IV — the first crewed lunar landing since Apollo 17 in December 1972, ending a gap of over 55 years. Two astronauts will descend to the lunar south polar region aboard a commercial lander (SpaceX Starship or Blue Origin Blue Moon). The mission will include the first woman and first person of colour to walk on the Moon. NASA also plans a second landing attempt with Artemis V later in 2028, beginning the construction of a sustained lunar presence.

2028Summer Olympics — Los Angeles 2028The XXXIV Summer Olympic Games return to Los Angeles for the third time (after 1932 and 1984), scheduled for 14–30 July 2028. Los Angeles was awarded the games in 2017 and will host across existing venues including the Rose Bowl, SoFi Stadium and the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. The games follow Paris 2024 and represent the United States' first Summer Olympics since Atlanta 1996. Breaking, skateboarding, surfing and sport climbing continue from Paris; cricket and flag football are added for the first time.
2028Total Solar Eclipse — July 22, 2028A total solar eclipse crosses Australia and New Zealand on 22 July 2028, with the path of totality passing over Sydney — one of the few major world cities to experience totality in the 21st century. Maximum totality lasts up to 5 minutes 10 seconds over the Tasman Sea. For Sydney's 5 million residents, it will be the most spectacular celestial event in living memory.

Totality lasts approximately 1 hour 12 minutes. The combination of timing and visibility makes it one of the most widely observed lunar eclipses of the century.
