2021Dell spins off VMwareDell Technologies spins off its 81% stake in VMware on 1 November 2021, distributing VMware shares to Dell stockholders and eliminating $14 billion of debt. VMware becomes fully independent with a market cap of approximately $65 billion. Dell retains its core infrastructure business: servers, storage, networking and PCs, generating $101 billion in annual revenues. Broadcom subsequently acquires VMware in 2023 for $61 billion.
