2018IBM acquires Red Hat for $34 billionIBM announces the acquisition of Red Hat — the world's largest open-source software company and provider of the Red Hat Enterprise Linux platform — for $34 billion on 28 October 2018. It is the largest acquisition in IBM's history and the third-largest technology acquisition ever. Red Hat's hybrid cloud platform, OpenShift, gives IBM a credible cloud strategy and access to the open-source developer community that IBM's proprietary culture had never penetrated.
