1930 – 2003Robert Atkins (1930-2003)Died 17 April 2003, aged 72Robert Atkins was a cardiologist who popularised the low-carbohydrate, high-protein diet set out in his 1972 book 'Dr. Atkins' Diet Revolution'. The Atkins diet became a worldwide phenomenon in the early 2000s. He died from a head injury after falling on ice.
