2002Forced out of the BBC -- the Guardian columnOn 25 September 2002 Liddle writes a column in The Guardian about the Countryside Alliance march in defence of fox hunting, suggesting readers would remember why they voted Labour once they saw the marchers. The Daily Telegraph accuses him of political bias. The BBC concludes he has breached his commitment to impartiality and gives him an ultimatum: stop writing the column or resign. He resigns on 30 September 2002. It is the pivotal moment of his career -- the BBC loses a talented editor; Fleet Street gains its most combustible columnist.
