1866 – 1936Lincoln Steffens (1866-1936)Died 9 August 1936, aged 70Lincoln Steffens was an American investigative journalist and one of the leading muckrakers. He exposed municipal corruption in The Shame of the Cities. After visiting Soviet Russia, he wrote that he had seen the future and it works.
1871 – 1936Grazia Deledda (1871-1936)Died 15 August 1936, aged 64Grazia Deledda was an Italian novelist from Sardinia who won the 1926 Nobel Prize in Literature. She was the first Italian woman to receive it. Her novels, including Reeds in the Wind, portray Sardinian rural life.
