1858Orsini assassination attempt on Napoleon IIIItalian revolutionary bombs the French emperor's carriageFelice Orsini threw three bombs at Emperor Napoleon III's carriage outside the Paris Opera, killing eight bystanders and wounding over a hundred people. Napoleon III and his wife survived unharmed. The attack pushed France toward closer involvement in the movement for Italian unification.
