1843Congress funds Morse's telegraph line$30,000 granted for a Washington-Baltimore lineThe United States Congress voted $30,000 for Samuel Morse to build an experimental telegraph line between Washington and Baltimore. The line carried its first message in May 1844 and showed that electric telegraphy worked in practice.
