1772 – 1839Mikhail Speransky (1772-1839)Died 11 February 1839, aged 67Mikhail Speransky served as a leading statesman and legal reformer under Tsars Alexander I and Nicholas I of Russia. He is best known for overseeing the compilation of the Digest of Laws of the Russian Empire, the first systematic codification of Russian law. He died in Saint Petersburg shortly after being made a count.
1772 – 1844Étienne Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire (1772-1844)Died 19 June 1844, aged 72French naturalist who argued for a single underlying plan in animal anatomy. In 1830 he publicly debated this question with Georges Cuvier. His ideas contributed to early theories of evolution.
