1614Napier invents logarithmsMirifici Logarithmorum Canonis Descriptio — calculation transformedIn 1614, John Napier of Edinburgh published his description of logarithms — a mathematical tool that converts multiplication into addition, dramatically reducing the labour of complex calculation. Kepler described logarithms as a gift from God. The concept led directly to the slide rule and underpinned all scientific calculation for 350 years, until electronic calculators. Napier also introduced the decimal point in its modern form.
