• 1353 BC – 1336 BC Akhenaten -- the heretic pharaoh Akhenaten (c.1353-1336 BC) attempts to replace Egyptian polytheism with worship of the Aten (sun disc), moves the capital to Amarna, revolutionises Egyptian art with naturalistic depictions of the royal family, and may have influenced the Mosaic concept of a single god. His religious revolution is reversed immediately after his death and his name is erased from monuments.
