1353 BC – 1336 BCAkhenaten -- the heretic pharaohAkhenaten (c.1353-1336 BC) attempts to replace Egyptian polytheism with worship of the Aten (sun disc), moves the capital to Amarna, revolutionises Egyptian art with naturalistic depictions of the royal family, and may have influenced the Mosaic concept of a single god. His religious revolution is reversed immediately after his death and his name is erased from monuments.
1332 BC – 1323 BCTutankhamun -- the boy kingTutankhamun (c.1332-1323 BC) is a minor pharaoh who reigned for approximately nine years and died at 18-19, yet is now the most famous of all pharaohs -- solely because his tomb in the Valley of the Kings was found essentially intact by Howard Carter on 4 November 1922. The tomb's 5,000+ objects include the golden death mask, the most recognisable artefact of the ancient world.
